FAQs

FAQ

  • Is this concierge medicine?

Our subscription based primary care membership makes concierge level care available for everyone. Concierge practices "double dip" by charging an extra monthly or annual fee in addition to billing your insurance. We are able to make care affordable and accessible by not billing insurance and having an all inclusive monthly membership instead.

  • Are there other practices who do member based primary care?

Yes! In fact, this subscription based primary care is called direct primary care (DPC) and we are the first pure DPC practice in Hartwell, GA. There are currently over 1,000 practices in 49 states and the number is growing rapidly. Georgia alone has seen 1-2 new DPC practices per year over the last 5 years. We are all driven by a need to provide the best, direct care by removing barriers which stand between us and our patients.

  • Why do you not bill insurance?

    1. Better Care: Insurance based primary care practices require their physicians to see 20-40 patients a day and spend valuable time worrying how to bill the visits. This is why doctors seem rushed, run behind by 1-2 hours, and why many people have a hard time getting an appointment with their doctor. Our visits are longer, start on time, and focus only on you. We also have more flexibility with telemedicine so you can get care based on your schedule and preferences.

    2. Reduced Cost: In addition to a large patient volume, insurance based practices also need a staff to meet the volume and handle the complicated insurance billing. We do not need to support a giant back office of staff who only exist to process insurance claims, allowing us to make our monthly fee about the price of a cup of coffee a day. Office visits are always available without co-pays or “administrative fees."

    3. Improved Access: Many people are still uninsured, or worse, they have insurance but avoid seeing a doctor because the deductible is too high. We accept everyone regardless of what insurance you carry or even if you don’t have insurance (though we do recommend having insurance or a health share). You can also keep your doctor regardless of what insurance changes may happen.

  • Does a membership replace insurance? Can I use any of my insurance benefits here?

This is not a different form of health insurance.  We pair well with insurances, especially high deductible plans, and we recommend everyone have insurance or a health share plan for catastrophic events such as trauma or severe illness requiring hospitalization. Insurance works really well for the rare, expensive event, but creates unecessary complexity and cost for primary care services.

If you have health insurance, and are in need of labs or diagnostic testing, in which you would like to have processed through insurance, the lab(s) and the diagnostic center(s) may process your insurance for coverage of these services. However, our office will not process on 'our end.' For further questions on this, please contact us.

  • Why do I need a membership if I don't really go to the doctor?

Traditional primary care focuses only on sick care. A membership is more than just paying for sick care, it's an invesment in your future health. If you already pay for insurance, see how our membership may save you money.

  • Is membership a long-term commitment?

We believe building long term relationships with patients has many benefits, but we understand finding the right doctor for you is very important and we don’t want to force you to stay in a mismatched relationship. Our membership goes month to month and there are no traps to keep you longer than you want to stay. We would appreciate a 30 day notice prior to unsubscribing.

  • What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?

Having such unprecedented direct access to your doctor can prevent hospitalizations and specialty referrals in many cases. However, when those types of care are required, we will certainly continue to work with your hospitalist during your hospital stay as well as work closely with any specialist. We are not credentialed by the hospital but you can arrange for us to make social visits in order to coordinate care with your hospital team.

  • What if I have Medicare or Medicaid?

We can take patients who receive Medicare or Medicaid insurance. However, we do not bill these plans within our type of practice. You will need to sign a form to indicate you understand this and will not ask for reimbursement of services we provide.
